I bet people were in awe of it in it's day as we are to the new High Track Caterpillars of today, I'm betting it was one of the most powerful machines on earth when it was produced, the blade was still fairly massive even for the vintage it is.

Thought the cable and pully system was interesting on the front and top of the raidiator, how strong it had to be built to withstand the constant pressure of hoisting the blade over and over again and staying in tact.

I thought the shape of the cab on this crawler was unique as well, I wonder if it was sold by Caterpillar with this cab or if it was added by whoever purchased it or owned it, would be interesting to know, wow what a small opening to look back through, I guess you would have to be very careful when backing up with such little visibility.

Here is a shot at the under carriage and track assembly, built pretty tough back then as well.

A closeup of the controls inside the cab, they appear very strange to me, way different than the 1947 D7 I once operated. I was delighted when I saw this old Caterpillar, and couldn't wait to photograph it.

I am amazed how big this six cylinder engine was for it's time, perhaps someone can tell me the year and or horsepower this crawler produced.

Note the old style controls by the seating
I opearated a 1947 D7 years ago and it appeared much more modern than this one with different controls.
It had dual sticks but was sitll cable operated, so I'm guessing this old girl was way older than 1947!
